Free Tech Classes Offered to Parents

The Little Rock School District’s Parent Involvement Office is offering a workshop to parents on the kinds of technology that their children are using at school.  Topics to be covered at a July 30th session from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. will focus on iPad and Smart Board use.  This session will be held at Little Rock School District Technology Center, 7701 Scott Hamilton Road, Little Rock.

Summer Laureate University for Youth (SLUFY) is an educational program that provides unique learning experiences for high-ability students to explore and expand their talents and abilities. The program offers a variety of classes taught by a staff that includes graduate students seeking masters degrees in teaching the gifted and talented, certified master teachers, and other experts.

SLUFY presents high-ability students with a unique, enriched opportunity to learn through hands-on experiences under the guidance of enthusiastic teachers. Students also will get to meet other talented students, forging friendships that last long beyond the summer program.

The Summer Laureate University for Youth accepts applications from students in kindergarten through 8th grade during the current 2012-2013 school year. Students are placed in classes of the grade level they are completing in May.

Computer Power Day 2: October 6th 8:30 am – 1pm

Pay $40

Pay $40 for a refurbished computer from LRSD and get $9.99 internet service from Comcast.

Step 1: Confirm your eligibility

• My child is a current LRSD student

• My child does not have access to computer technology in our home

• Request and receive prior approval from your child’s teacher and principal (see step 2)

Step 2: Parent Agreement

• Fill out the parent agreement form

(see back of flyer or p. 2 of PDF)

• Take it to your child’s school for required signatures (apply by Monday, Oct. 1)

• Pay $40 cash or money order at your child’s school

• Bring the form & receipt with you to pick up your computer on Sat. Oct. 6

Step 3: Come to COMPUTER power day 2: Oct. 6

• Bring parent agreement form and your receipt(if you paid at your child’s school) or $40 CASH OR MONEY ORDER

Step 4: Apply for Comcast low cost $9.99 Internet Essentials

• Your household must receive free or reduced-price meals at LRSD

• Visit all workshop booths for a chance to win door prizes
